Good Grief

Families and death doulas share how GiveWillow supports people through loss, with care and community.

Any professional working in end of life care knows that grief is not just emotional. It’s logistical and financial too. GiveWillow gives families a tool that matches the reality of modern grief. It is practical, accessible, and easy to integrate into conversations around planning and preparation.

— Kacie G., Death Doula

Flowers are nice and meal trains fill up, but giving toward something knowing that it is exactly what the family chose to honor their loved ones makes it feel even more special.

— Lauren R, Supporting Families Through GiveWillow

GiveWillow normalizes asking for and receiving support at end of life in a way that feels dignified, practical, and compassionate.

— Mikey M., Death Doula

The most beautiful thing about a platform like this is, it lets people express their love and show the best sides of humanity.

— Rebekah A., Supported Through GiveWillow

As a death doula, I often see families scrambling to cover costs or trying to manage logistics while they’re grieving. GiveWillow provides a centralized, transparent way to organize financial support.

— Kacie G., Death Doula

I just love GiveWillow and the fact that Janet created it to help people have closure and get something that they really need in a funeral service that they might not have been able to afford on their own.

Meet the Founder

Janet Turkula

When I was 22, my dad passed away suddenly. Left with immense grief, my siblings and I had to plan and pay for a simple cremation because we couldn't afford a traditional funeral. He was a single father for most of my life and this experience left us feeling that we hadn't given him the farewell he truly deserved.

Over the years, I witnessed friends and acquaintances lose loved ones, and I constantly told myself, "I should be doing more." Buying flowers felt insufficient, but I didn't know how else to help. This personal experience inspired me to create GiveWillow - A platform designed to prevent others from facing the same hardships my family did.

– Janet Turkula, GiveWillow Founder

FAQs

How is GiveWillow different from GoFundMe?add_faqsubtract_faq
GiveWillow is built specifically for loss and remembrance. Instead of running a fundraising campaign, families create a registry that allows friends and loved ones to contribute meals, financial support, and practical help that truly make a difference during a difficult time. In addition to funeral registries, GiveWillow also offers pre-planning registries and celebration of life registries, giving families thoughtful ways to organize support, share memories, and bring their community together when it matters most.
What is a Funeral Registry?add_faqsubtract_faq
Imagine a wedding registry, but designed specifically for Funeral registry. A Funeral registry clarifies the way people can contribute to meaningful needs in order to provide space to focus on what matters most, while also creating a centralized hub to share memories and important details about gatherings. GiveWillow is more than a tool—it is a compassionate bridge that connects us during one of life’s most difficult transitions.
How do contributions work?add_faqsubtract_faq
Friends, family, and colleagues can offer support by contributing to your loved one’s funeral registry. They can choose to give any amount toward specific needs—like a casket, headstone, or travel. It’s a meaningful way for your community to show care and provide practical help during a difficult time.
Is GiveWillow free to use?add_faqsubtract_faq
Creating a registry is free to use for the organizing family. When someone contributes, a 2.2% fee is added. This includes covering processing fees for organizing family.
How do I know if GiveWillow is right for me?add_faqsubtract_faq
GiveWillow is an ideal solution for families seeking meaningful support during a difficult time. Whether you’re looking for a way to manage funeral expenses, share service details, or create a memorial tribute, our platform simplifies the process and helps you feel supported by your community.
Does GiveWillow include an obituary?add_faqsubtract_faq
Yes, every funeral registry on GiveWillow includes a dedicated space for an obituary and service details. You can easily share important information about your loved one's life and the details of any gatherings or services with your community.
